St Matthews places great importance on children, young people, parents and families

Children and Sunday Morning Worship

We have a few young families at St. Matthew’s. We are a very child-friendly church. Children who come with their parents or grandparents Sunday mornings are welcome to sit with their families and/or join in with the children’s activity provided.

We have a space in church on a Sunday children are welcome to hang out, including an activity table.

Revd. Amy our Priest in Charge invites any children to join her at the altar steps for a short talk and explains the activity they can do if they wish. The children’s candle is lit and a prayer is offered. The children then gather around the table and work on their activity. Parents check in on and assist if necessary. While the children are working the rest of us are listening to the message.

Children often participate in worship with collecting the offertory, putting out candles, reading, or assisting Revd. Amy behind the altar with ablutions following Communion.

We don’t mind what children wear (or adults for that matter), we don’t mind a bit of noise, we don’t mind children walking about. There are no taboos. The important thing is that you and your children feel comfortable and accepted and free to participate and to enjoy the worshipful experience.
